The Gloom Dagger in Wayfinder is a Key Item and important tool tied to Quests, exploration and character progression. The Gloom Dagger serves a variety of purposes, the most prominent of which is giving you the ability to discover and explore Lost Zones. It can also be upgraded to enable the use of Imbuements which add modifiers to various activities and it can be bound to signal fires and checkpoints across the world to unlock Fast Travel points. The Gloom Dagger is obtained early in the game and is an essential piece of gear that allows Wayfinders to unlock their true potential.
Forged with a shared wrested from a Precusror's blade, Omen and Lord Halar toiled for nearly a year before they perfected the first Gloom Dagger. This incredible tool allows Wayfinders to venture into the Gloom and shape reality itself.

Wayfinder Gloom Dagger Overview
Gloom Daggers are mysterious tools used to cut a path through the Gloom that has ravaged Evenor and establish a connection to Lost Zones — unstable replicas of various locations that were lost in the Gloomfall.
Born from a shard of the Gloom itself, Omen, Lord Halar and the other Seekers of Skylight have refined these mystical daggers over many trials and tribulations in the year preceding the return of the Wayfinders. Armed with this powerful albeit not fully understood piece of equipment, the Wayfinders must now carve a path through the shadows, control the chaos and shape reality itself while investigating the mystery of the Gloom.
Obtaining the Gloom Dagger in Wayfinder
From the very start of the game, Omen will give you an unrefined Gloom Shard during the Heart of Darkness quest. With this, you will need to fight your way through the Gloom and make your way back to Skylight. In the subsequent quests, you will be tasked with exploring your first Lost Zone and obtaining a Codex Ember with which you you can craft your Gloom Dagger with the help of Lord Halar and the Echo Matrix.
Discovering Lost Zones in Wayfinder
The main purpose of the Gloom Dagger is allowing Wayfinders to discover and embark on Expeditions and Hunts into Lost Zones. These are procedurally-generated dungeons or instances in various Locations that have been consumed by the Gloom. Chaotic and unpredictable in nature, Lost Zones change their layout with every visit, along with the enemies, events and rewards found within so no two expeditions are the same.
Expeditions & Connections
In order to discover and unlock a Lost Zone, you must first find a Connection tied to a place consumed by the Gloom. These Connections are Key Items that can be found while exploring the Highlands outside of Skylight, obtained through Quests or found in other Lost Zones you have already unlocked. These connections will lead you to Breaches — sheets of Gloom energy found in the Highlands that serve as an entrance. Once found, you can cut through a Breach using your Gloom Dagger to enter the Lost Zone.
After establishing a connection to a Lost Zone and completing it for the first time, you will unlock the ability to embark on expeditions to it using the Gloom Gate in Skylight, allowing you to revisit an area in various settings, farm enemies and resources, complete events and progress the various questlines related to the Lost Zone.
Hunts & Gloomtraces
As you embark on Expeditions and complete Quests, you may unlock the ability to craft Gloomtraces — Essences of particularly powerful enemies. These will allow you to take on Hunts using the Gloom Gate in Skylight. Each Gloomtrace is unique and leads to a different opponent. Unlike Expeditions which have a large exploration component, Hunts are focused solely on Boss encounters in arenas within Lost Zones.
These encounters may involve complex mechanics that require strategy and cooperation with other players in order to overcome. Completing them is a key component of certain quests and other objectives, and they can provide powerful rewards as well. Like Expeditions, Hunts can be done repeatedly in various settings once unlocked.
Other Gloom Dagger Features in Wayfinder
Imbuements
As you progress in the Main Questlines, you will unlock the ability to apply Imbuements onto your Gloom Dagger. Imbuements are consumable items that can be equipped at the Gloomsphere before embarking on an Expedition or Hunt. These items create Mutators that apply a plethora of effects that modify a Lost Zone, its enemies, hazards and events. These effects include fire bombs randomly spawning as you explore, forcing you to perform an evasive maneuver or causing enemies to drop toxic pools that cause damage-over-time upon death. While these effects make Lost Zones more difficult, they also reward players with increased XP gains and rewards.
There are five types of Imbuements, with each one providing a base effect. As you make more progress, you will be able to upgrade your Gloom Dagger to have more Imbuement Slots, allowing you to apply multiple Imbuements at once. Different combinations of Imbuements will result in a wide of variety of Mutators that can greatly affect the events, mechanics and rewards of the Lost Zones you travel to. Try different combinations to learn what Mutators work best for your current goals and objectives.
Gloom Dagger Customizations
